More Dirt Roads, Mean More Adventures

We just drove two hours from Gällivare to Luleå, I get so sick from the roads. The coolest thing by far is that we actually pasted the arctic circle line!

When we go back we will take pictures, we were in a hurry to get to Luleå... my whole car sickness was getting to me.
Yesterday though, yesterday was AMAZING! We started off by celebrating Mother's Day here in Sweden. There is a Swedish cake that is a tradition to eat on Mother's Day, we celebrated Jan's mother because William's mother is non-existent. This was the most delicious cake with whipped cream, cream cheese frosting filling and fluffy white cake with puffed rice and fruit across the top! Is your mouth watering? Mine is!

The writing says... My Mother
William and I started off on our road trip. We headed into the preserved forest area of the Lapland people. These are the people who follow their reindeer herd and live off the land. Their homes are built from everything of the earth, mud and branches... incredible!

It was about an hour drive from the sign, on a completly torn up dirt road... one heck of a headache when we reached the destination...

Our 1st stop was at Jaurekaska, yup Jaurekaska!
I was pretty unimpressed but kept my impressions to myself, we literally climbed a mountain up and then went down the otherside to it.
Pretty freaking incredible view!!!

Our 2nd stop, Swedens Niagra Falls called Stora Sjöfallet.
It was a pretty good laugh when we saw it...
Apparently it's regulated by the damn miles up stream.
There was not much water coming out...

So we wanted to get over there but had no idea how to get closer... so what did we find? Nothing more than our favorite... a dirt road!
We parked and set out on foot to find this so called waterfall.
Up close, it's a lot more amazing!!!

As I hiked up the fountains more and more and more
I was so blown away to find several waterfalls!!!

The mountains were even more incredible.

When I reached the top of the falls I came to the most unbelivable lake, more like giant pool. The water was untouched, it did not move, there was no wind. It was like glass, no power poles, no houses, no roads ANYWHERE near... it was just me!

The water was UNREAL

Knowing we were in a National Forest and we were not allowed to build a fire, we hiked back to the car and decided to drive till we reached the forest line.
Once we passed the line we parked the car on the side of the road, hopped the ditch and hiked up a ways from the road and found a perfect spot to build a fire.
I think William was more excited to get to use his ax again...

Check out my Swedish Army hat that was William's father from when he was in the Swedish Army!

We cooked Swedish sausage over the fire and boiled some water for hot chocolate...

After sitting by the fire we hopped across the ditch again and started the drive home... for a perfect ending to the day, I spotted a MOOSE!!!

Well we left the house at 1:30 p.m. and arrived back around 11 p.m.

Goodnight from Luleå, Sweden where were at William's sister, Emma's apartment!
I heard Luleå is a mini-Stockholm!
